Friday: Arrival & Evening Adventure

140 N. 4th Street, Louisville, KY 40202

Begin your getaway by checking into the iconic Galt House Hotel, located right along the Ohio River. With its central downtown location and family-friendly amenities, it’s a great home base for exploring the city.

937 Phillips Lane, Louisville, KY

Kick off your weekend with a little fall magic at Kentucky Kingdom’s “Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom” event. Open from 5–9 PM, this seasonal experience is especially great for young kids — there are virtually no lines for rides, making it an easy, stress-free evening for families. The park is filled with glowing pumpkin displays, themed music, and just the right amount of spooky fun for little ones.

Saturday: Local Eats, Waterfront Play, and Fall Nights

324 W Main St, Louisville, KY 40202

Start your day with a wholesome breakfast at In Season Harvest Kitchen, known for its locally sourced dishes and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Morning: PlayPort at Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park, Louisville, KY — (Address varies; it spans along the Ohio River downtown)

Head to Waterfront Park’s PlayPort, one of the city’s best playgrounds. With climbing structures, splash areas, and river views, it’s a perfect spot for kids to explore and parents to enjoy the scenic downtown setting.

Oxmoor Center, 7900 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40222

Next, make your way to Puttshack Louisville, a high-tech mini golf experience that’s as much about the food as the fun. The menu here is surprisingly amazing, featuring creative small plates, shareables, and drinks that make it a hit for both kids and adults.

Iroquois Amphitheater, 1080 Amphitheater Road, Louisville, KY 40214

End the day with a Louisville fall tradition — the Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular at Iroquois Park. Wander through a glowing trail of more than 5,000 carved pumpkins, each intricately designed and themed. It’s a must-see event that perfectly captures the magic of autumn in Kentucky.

Sunday: Brunch, Zoo Time & Local Bites

The Brown Hotel, 335 W Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202

Before checking out, grab breakfast at the legendary J. Graham’s Café, home of the original Hot Brown. This Louisville staple has a great Sunday brunch which was perfect for my family with kiddos who didn't want to wait for food!

Morning Adventure: Louisville Zoo

Louisville Zoo (Poplar Level neighborhood), Louisville, KY

Spend your last morning exploring the Louisville Zoo, a family favorite featuring animals from around the world, interactive exhibits, and plenty of shade for easy strolling. It’s the perfect laid-back adventure to round out your trip. Be sure top stop by the bird adventure and buy the nectar--the birds will eat right out of your hands!

Lunch Stop: Oskar’s Slider Bar

3799 Poplar Level Rd, Louisville, KY

After the zoo, head to Oskar’s Slider Bar, a local favorite known for its creative sliders and Scandinavian-inspired comfort food. From their house-made sauces to unique flavor combos, it’s a great spot to refuel before heading home.

Afternoon Wind-Down: Claw Zone

5629 Outer Loop, Louisville, KY

Wrap up your weekend with a stop at Claw Zone, a fun arcade consisting of only claw machines. We spent $50 and my kids each walked out with 3-4 new stuffies they won from the claw games!
